Switching to Raw...
Straight Swap:
We recommend doing a straight swap from processed pet food to raw. Feed the last meal as normal the night before and introduce raw on an empty stomach the next day. We don’t recommend mixing it with processed food as this can upset the gut. Slightly softer, or runnier stools are normal over the first 4-6 days of raw feeding as your dog needs to adjust its gut bacteria to the new diet.
Keep It Simple:
We always advise to keep it simple to start with, use easily digestable, bland meats that aren't to rich, such as chicken or turkey for the first 7 days, to help reduce the chances of soft/runny stools. We reccomend adding new varieties slowly, and building them up one by one. Tripe is always great to feed when switching your dog onto raw as it is nutrient dense and helps to balance the stomach as its adjusting to the new diet.
Gut Health:
To further aid your dogs transition, you can introduce probiotics - which are fantastic for gut health! Natural kefir is the most effective and is full of healthy bacteria (this can be found on our website). We also highly recommend Tummy Tastic from Proflax (also available on our website) and this comes in powdered form.
Some dogs go through a detox stage, they may itch a little or seem hungry. When dry food enters the stomach it triples in size and the dogs are used to this bloated feeling after meals. This will settle over time.
Drinking:
Whilst fresh clean water MUST always be available, pets that are raw fed drink less, they just don’t need it. Dry food can cause dehydration which is why they need to drink more.
